Culinary Arts

The Culinary Arts Program contains instructions in food preparation, kitchen safety and sanitation, inventory, ordering, dining room set-up and serving techniques, catering, and all aspects of appropriate etiquette in a restaurant or hotel kitchen environment. The facility features a state–of-the art food service kitchen lab, a classroom, and an Honors Guest Dining Room, which functions as a student run restaurant. The curriculum prepares students to obtain positions as station cooks upon completion of the basic program. All students are strongly encouraged to complete the advanced level.

Cement Masonry


The Cement Masonry Program prepares students to contribute to the workplace as valued employees from day one. Students learn surface prep, operation of cement mixing and power washing equipment, mixing and pouring cement, stamping concrete, taping, cement refinishing, and use of scaffolding equipment. This program is designed to prepare students for entry into a union apprenticeship program.

Health Occupations (Nurse Assistant)

The Health Occupations Program includes instruction in patient care, CPR, and professional ethics. Students learn extensive medical terminology and receive hands-on training in a hospital or convalescent care environment. The classroom contains all the equipment necessary to complete all tasks for nurse assistant and home health aide. Students will complete a Medical Assistant Course or Certified Nursing Program at Long Beach City College. Advanced training includes entry into a Licensed Vocational Nursing Program.

Business Technology


The Business Technology Program prepares students to work in an office or business environment using computer technology. Students will become proficient in Microsoft Office Software, fundamental office procedures, business English and Math, operation of office equipment, keyboarding, business communication, filing, and customer service. Completion of this program will enable a student to work as an Office Clerk, Administrative Clerk, Data Entry Clerk, Hotel Clerk, or Office Assistant.

Facilities Maintenance


The Facilities Maintenance Program prepares students to learn skills in framing, insulation, roofing, plumbing, dry walling, painting, general carpentry, and installation of doors and windows. This vocational trade enables students to learn all aspects of repair and maintenance necessary for positions as building and apartment maintenance helpers at the completion of the basic course.

Automotive Repair

The Automotive Service Repair Program prepares students to learn about front end brakes, steering, engine principles, tune-up, air-conditioning, oil and lubrication, rear axle and driveline repair. Students learn to perform safety inspections and emissions tests under the guidance of a certified technician. The students learn all aspects of basic auto repair that prepare them for an entry level position as a General Service Technician in a local shop or dealership. Students may elect to attend an advanced training program.

Glazing

The Glazing Program allows trainees to work with various forms of glass including laminated, tempered, reflective, and wire imbedded glass, mirrors, and pre-assembled glass panels. Plastic and similar glass substitutes are also used. Glaziers select, measure, install, and fit these materials for use in window and door frames, bath and shower enclosures, glass partitions, skylights and store fronts. Successful completion of the program prepares students for entry into a union apprenticeship program.

Telecommunications

The Telecommunications Program includes fundamentals of electrical circuitry, currents, terminology, Ohms Law, voltage and conductors, and telephone color coding. Completion of this program prepares students to be television cable installers, line installers/repairers, station installers/repairers and advanced level television line technicians.
